GBCC Update

The club has been very active in the first 3 months of the year with a number of initiatives and events having already taken place, along with the staple Sunday Spin of course. Below is a flavour of some of the events and activities that have taken place in the last 3 months:

On Your Bike Spin

Open Night

Launch of the Great Galway Bike Ride

First Aid

Women’s Group

Encouragement of Intermediate group

Things are moving along nicely with a Coaching Course being provided on the 2nd of April next by legendary cycling guru, Paddy Doran. This one day course is free to all members of the club.

Preparations for the Great Galway Bike Ride are also gathering pace with some sterling work being done by Roan Campbell, Nigel Forde and Kevin Owens. This event has great potential and we are really looking forward to working with the City council to launch their cycle route initiative, which dovetails nicely with the Great Galway Bike Ride. We are really encouraging all cyclists to participate in one of the 4 options available – so hopefully we can get folks out to have a go at the distance that suits them, whether it’s 30, 60, 90 or 125km !!

The flagship Galway City Criterium is also scheduled for June and we would appreciate any help we can get on this from the club membership. It’s really important for the club to continue to support such an exciting city cycle race such as this. We also look forward to working closely with the Highfield Residents Association again.

The racing season has begun and already we have seen participation by our riders in events across the country. Hopefully we’ll see a good GBCC representation at Rás Mhaigh Eo this coming weekend.

Keep an eye out for our Facebook posts and you can message the GBCC Facebook page at any time and we’ll get back to you as soon as we can.
