Galway Bay Cycling Club – Youth Section
From small acorns great oak trees grow.
In 2013 Galway Bay Cycling Club started a youth section with just one member; Eoghan McArdle Ruane. The following year Aaron Burke joined and he was quickly followed by Dion Darcy. In late 2014 there was an explosion of interest with new members joining. Ronan & Aoife Dirrane from
Spiddle came on board as did Joe Tannian, Breda McCarthy, Ben Vahey, Mike McHale and Ryan Connolly amongst others.
GBCC Youth section now has 20 members making it the second Youth Cycling Club in Connacht and fast becoming the largest with new members joining weekly. Over the next few years, Galway Bay Cycling Club intend to develop and nurture it’s current and future members to be the best cyclists they can be, whether that is as elite road racers, mountain bikers, track or leisure cyclists. A comprehensive coaching programme is being being put in place to develop the skills and potential of our members. Every cyclist is an individual and has different aims and ambitions and GBCC will strive to give each cyclist the potential to achieve their personal aims and ambitions, while never losing track of the fun element of cycling.
Our current members partake in all the major road races throughout the country such as the Errigal Youth Tour, Kanturk 2 Day, Ras na nOg and are involved in mountain biking, track and leisure cycling. Our members have won Connacht Championship medals in road racing, hill climbing and mountain biking. Three of our members Aaron Burke, Ronan Dirrane & Eoghan McArdle Ruane were selected to take part in an Irish training weekend at the Velodrome in Wales in November 2014 as part of a Connacht squad.
Although Galway Bay Cycling Club is a long established club the youth section is in it’s infancy but Galway Bay Cycling Club intend to turn the Youth section into one of the premier youth cycling clubs in the country within a few years.
